Jaguar Land Rover Factory Reopening Delayed After Cyber Attack

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced a further delay to the reopening of its production lines following a sophisticated cyber attack.

The pause in manufacturing has been extended until Wednesday, 1 October 2025, to allow the investigation to progress and to ensure a secure return to operations.

Overview of Cyber Attack

Earlier this week, JLR informed colleagues, suppliers, and partners that its three major UK manufacturing sites would remain idle for an additional week.

The decision aims to provide clarity for all stakeholders as the company works to build a detailed timeline for a phased restart.

During this extended pause, JLR’s teams will focus on completing forensic analysis, restoring affected systems, and bolstering their cyber defenses to guard against any potential resurgent threats.

The company emphasized the need to avoid another abrupt shutdown and stressed that a cautious approach will help prevent further disruptions.

“We have made this decision to give clarity for the coming week as we build the timeline for the phased restart of our operations and continue our investigation,” JLR said in a statement.

As part of its response, JLR has enlisted cybersecurity specialists alongside the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and relevant law enforcement agencies.

These joint efforts aim to identify the root cause of the breach, contain any remaining vulnerabilities, and recover critical data.

Teams are working around the clock to piece together the attack timeline, trace the threat actors, and secure systems before any production resumes.

Insiders report that the attack targeted JLR’s internal networks, affecting both operational and administrative systems.

While the full extent of the breach remains undisclosed, early assessments suggest no evidence of customer data being compromised.

Nonetheless, the automaker is treating the incident with the utmost seriousness, prioritizing both operational resilience and data security.

JLR reiterated that its retailer network remains open and fully operational. The company has taken steps to ensure that orders in progress and aftersales services continue unaffected.

“Our focus remains on supporting our customers, suppliers, colleagues, and our retailers, who remain open,” stated the company.

It also thanked everyone connected with JLR for their patience and understanding during this challenging time.

To maintain clear communication, JLR has set up dedicated points of contact for suppliers and dealers to address any concerns and coordinate logistics.

Meanwhile, colleagues directly affected by the shutdown will receive full pay for the extended pause.

The automaker has also reassured its workforce that extensive safety checks and system validations will be completed before the factory floors come back to life.

JLR believes that this deliberate approach will ultimately safeguard its reputation and operational integrity.

With the extended timeline in place, the company is poised to resume production in a manner that prioritizes both the safety of its processes and the security of its digital environment.
